Ladies v Coleraine 8th September

The senior ladies played heir final league game of the season against Coleraine at Longfield on Thursday 8th. The opening quarter saw both sides evenly matched at 0-3 each with Lisa McGuigan scoring two and the third coming from Aideen Fullen. But Coleraine were getting a grip on the game with Shauna Doherty causing the home defence all sorts of problems. Between the fourteenth and fifteenth minutes the visitors scored 1-2, the goal coming from Anna Morrison, to go five points clear. Desertmartin replied strongly with points from Aideen Fullen, Roisin McElhennon and Ciara Shaw to close the gap. Coleraine hit two further points from Shauna Doherty to lead by five at halftime.

Coleraine took control of the second-half with their superior fitness shining through. Winning possession throughout the field they constantly ran at the Desertmartin defence and scoring repeatly. The Saffrons had some good passages of play with Noleen McGuckin having a great game in goals and Bronagh Shiels the pick of the home defence they created chances with 1-1 from Lisa McGuigan and a point from Louise Breen. But Coleraine ran out easy winners 3-17 to Desertmartin’s 1-8.

Ladies League Desertmartin vs Moneymore 6th June 2016

The Senior Ladies travelled to MacCracken Park on Monday evening 6th June to play their return league game against Moneymore. On a warm balmy evening both sides produced a thoroughly enjoyable encounter. Desertmartin with two points form Lisa McGuigan and one from Aideen Fullen went 0-3 ahead after five minutes of play. Moneymore hit back with 1-1 to lead by a point on the seventh minute. For the next twenty minutes Desertmartin were in full control. With Nuala Browne marshalling the defence from centre half-back, Louise Breen and Noleen McGuckin winning the mid-field exchanges and with Aideen Fullen and Lisa McGuigan in full flight up front the Martins created chance after chance. Despite their superiority they only managed to score three further points, two from Lisa McGuigan and one from Ciara Shaw. Against the run of play Moneymore broke down-field and scored a goal to lead at the break by a point.

The second half saw a very different type of game compared to the first. Bouyed by their revival just before the break Moneymore went all-out attack and scored 1-2 to lead by six points on the 36th minute. Desertmartin rose to he challange and cut the deficit to two points on the 39th minute with 1-1 coming from the boot of Lisa McGuigan. With both sides rivaling for supremacy scores were hard to come by and when Lisa McGuigan scored her sixth point of the evening on the 50th minute there was only one point between the sides. The final ten minutes saw both teams battle for possession but Moneymore had the last call on scoring. In the 52nd minute they lofted over a point to lead by two. Despite Desertmartin’s best efforts to close the gap Moneymore finished two point winners on scoreline Moneymore 3-4, Desertmartin 1-8.

Ladies League Desertmartin 2-02 Moneymore 3-06

On Monday 18th Desertmartin played Moneymore at Longfield in their first league game of the season. In a highly competitive sixty minutes the visitors just edged out the home side by two points on a 5-7 to 4-8 scoreline. Desertmartin were totally on top in the opening half and were disappointed to lead by only five points at the break. The second period saw a revitalised McCrackens. Aided by a lively breeze they were clinical in front of goals. From ten attempts at scoring Moneymore recorded 3-6 while Desertmartin with one effort less registered 2-2. The Saffrons were disappointed at losing knowing that they had the greater amount of possession over the hour.
