U14s v The Loup 1st September
U14s played host to Loup in the opening round of the championship on Thursday 1st. Although Desertmartin edged the league encounter early in the season by three points it was obvious that there would be little separating the sides at the end of this game.
Loup opened the scoring on the fourth minute with a point to which Lachlan Murray equalised from a free in the tenth minute. With the breeze at their backs the Loup went 3 – 1 ahead on thirteen minutes. Then came the first goal of the evening. A sweeping movement starting with Ryan McElhennon in the Desertmartin half taken on by Lachlan Murray who then found the on-rushing Martin Mackle who netted from close range. The Saffrons had an opportunity to go further ahead when Lachlan Murray failed to convert from the penalty spot on the sixteeenth minute. But Lachlan made amends a short time later when he nudged the home-side further ahead with a pointed free. Loup finished the first half the stronger when they hit 1-1 to no reply to lead 1-4 to 1-2 at the break.
The second half started in whirlwind fashion from both sides. Desertmartin hit the net for a second time through Martin Mackle following good interplay between himself and Lachlan Murray. But the Loup replied with three points in as many minutes to stay two ahead by the thirty-second minute. But Desertmartin stamped their authority on the game from then to the end of the game. Winning continued possession the home-side kept sweeping forward. In a ten minute blitz Desertmartin scored 2-2 to Loup’s 0-1 with Martin Mackle netting his hat-trick and a superbly fisted goal from Fearghal Bradley. Loup undaunted by the home-side’s onslaught replied with a goal on the forty-fifth minute to trim the deficit to two points. But Ryan McElhennon eased Desertmartin further ahead with a point and Lachlan Murray concluded the scoring with a pointed free on the fiftieth minute to give the Saffrons a four point win on a scoreline of Desertmartin 4-6 Loup 2-8

U14s v Limavady 12th August
Following a lengthy lay-off during the summer weeks the U14s returned to action against Limavady on Friday 12th. Played at Longfield on a blustery evening the Saffrons maintained their impressive league form. With Lachlan Murray in sparkling form, scoring 2-2 in the opening minutes, Desertmartin established a firm grip on the game. Limavady then opened their account with a well taken point only to be rocked back on their heels by three Desertmartin goals, one from Martin Mackle and two from Fearghal Bradley. Refusing to be overwhelmed the Wolfhounds replied with three points but further points by Martin Mackle and Conor Shields gave the Saffrons a 5-4 to 0-4 half-time lead.
Martin Mackle impressive throughout scored 1-1 shortly after the restart. Working hard to have an impact Limavady struck for their first goal. But the home -side refused to relinquish their superiority and added further points from Fearghal Bradley, Lachlan Murray and Martin Mackle. With time running out Limavady scored a second goal before Martin Mackle brought proceedings to an end with a late point giving Desertmartin a 7-9 to 2-4 victory.

U14s v Claudy 7th June
U14 Boys played host to Claudy on Tuesday evening 7th June, their first home game in quite some time. St Martin’s started well with Lachlan Murray scoring the first two points. ThIs was quickly followed with points from Ryan McEldowney and Martin Mackle before L Murray hit the first goal of the game. Further points were added by Fearghal Bradley, Gerard Fullen, Ryan Henry, L Murray, M Mackle and R McEldowney giving Desertmartin a half-time lead of 1-14 to 0-0.
The Saffrons started the second half as they finished the first, pushing hard for scores. L Murray and M Mackle continued their good form with a point apiece with Fearghal Bradley following with two more. C McCool added further points before M Mackle scored Desertmartin’s second goal. C Murtagh added another point before Fearghal Bradley rattled the back of the net for Desertmartin’s third. Claudy registered their first score with a pointed free. But Desertmartin concluded the scoring with points from C McCool and C Murtagh and a fourth goal by Oran O’Kane giving them a 4-22 to 0-1 victory.
U14s v Craigbane 31st May
U14s travelled to Craigbane on Tuesday 31st May. Desertmartin started well with a quick point following good play from Ryan McElhennon. This was soon followed by two quick goals from Craigbane. Both teams exchanged scores throughout the first-half, resulting in a half-time scoreline 3-1 to 1-4 to Craigbane.
St Martin’s played well in the second half but Craigbane matched them score for score. Despite good play Desertmartin couldn’t get ahead. It was an excellent game of football from both teams with Desertmartin losing by a single goal. Final score Craigbane 3-8 Desertmartin 2-8

U14s v Glenullin 17th May
The U14 Boys travelled to Glenullin on Tuesday 17th to play a league game on a very wet May evening. Despite the difficult conditions both sides served up a really sharp competitive game. Gerard Fullen opened the scoring with a point for Desertmartin to which Glenullin replied quickly with one for themselves.
Following a period of pressure Fearghal Bradley found the net for St Martin’s which was followed shortly by a point from Lachlan Murray to give the Saffrons a 1-2 to 0-1 half -time lead.
On the restart Glenullin scored three unanswered pointed frees to cut the deficit to one point. But Desertmartin pulled away with a good goal from Lachlan Murray. Glenullin rose to the challange and scored two more points to trail by only two entering the remaining few minutes of the game. But Lachlan Murray had the final say when he scored another point to leave Desertmartin winning 2-3 to 0-6.

U14 League vs Coleraine 10th May
U14’s played Coleraine at Longfield on Tuesday 10th May. Coleraine opened the scoring with a point to which Laclan Murray replied with a point for Desertmartin. St Martin’s went on a charge, scoring 3-2 with goals from C McCool, M Mackle and 1-2 from L Murray. Coleraine hit back with four points before L Murray struck again for the Saffrons scoring 2-2 and another goal from M Mackle left the home side leading by fifteen points at half-time.
Coleraine started the second-half with three quick goals to no reply. Desertmartin realising it was game on responded with points from L Murray, G Fullen and a goal from R McElhennon. In a game of high scoring Coleraine came back with 2-3 cutting the deficit to five points. But Desertmartin pulled away again with points from L Murray, R Henry and M Mackle to lead by eight points entering the final minutes. Coleraine scored a late goal to leave the result 7-10 to 6-8 for Desertmartin.

U14 League vs Swatragh 3rd May
U14 Boys travelled to Swatragh on Tuesday 3rd May to play a league game following their narrow defeat to Castledawson in the Feile final the day before. Slow to start the Saffrons were 2-1 down before Laclan Murray got them going with a pointed free. Swatragh added 1-1 before Desertmartin followed with five unanswered points. The Davitts scored another 1-1 to lead at the break 4-3 to 0-6.
St Martin’s went into their stride immediately after half-time scoring 1-2 with Laclan Murray raising the green flag. Three further points from R McEldowney, G Fullen and L Murray cut the deficit to one. Swatragh responded strongly hitting 1-2. With time running out Ryan Henry scored St Martin’s second goal trimming the home side’s lead to four points But the final whistle went shortly afterwards giving Swatragh a 5-8 to 2-13 victory.

U14 Feile Final 2nd May
The U14 Boys contested the final on Feile Peil nOg against Castledawson at blustery Owenbeg on Monday 2nd May. The teams were meeting for the second time this year when the first game ended all square. Desertmartin were first to score with a pointed free before Castledawson replied with three points to lead after eleven minutes 0-3 to 0-1. Laclan Murray stemmed the flow with a goal for the Saffrons on fifteen minutes giving St Martin’s a one point lead. But almost immediately Castledawson replied with a goal from Shay McKenna. Play ebbed and flowed to half-time with St Malachy’s adding another point to lead at the break 1-4 to 1-1.
Desertmartin started the second period brightly and only for a great save from the Dawson keeper Desertmartin could have raised the green flag. But it was the Lily Whites who did, when they hit the net on the twenty third minute to lead by six points. With Castledawson pressing strongly, the St Martin’s keeper, Fearghal Bradley kept his team in the game when he saved from point -blank range. Castledawson continued their dominance with two further points to lead by eight after twenty five minutes of play. The following ten minutes saw Desertmartin take control. Laclan Murray scored a penalty on the twenty-fifth minute cutting the deficit to five points. The Saffrons were on a role scoring four unanswered points trimming the Dawson’s lead to one with five minutes to go. But Castledawson stuck to their task and scored a point in the final minute to win on a scoreline of 2-7 to 2-5.

U14s Desermartin 1-9 The Loup 3-0
Desertmartin U14s travelled to Loup for their first league game of the season on Tuesday 19th . Played in excellent conditions the Desertmartin boys dominated the early exchanges. They got their just rewards when Martin Mackle scored two points from frees. He then followed this with a point from play and another from Lachlan Murray gave St Martin’s 0-4 to 0-0 lead. Despite trailing by four points Loup came into the game and only for good goalkeeping by Michael McGurk they could have reduced the deficit by three. St Martin’s finished the first half strongly when Ryan McElhennon netted for the Saffrons to give them a 1-4 to 0-0 half-time lead.
Loup started the second half sharply when they opened their account with a goal. Desertmartin responded quickly with a point from Martin Mackle and two more from Lachlan Murray giving them a 0-7 to 1-0 lead. Loup rocked St Martin’s in the closing minutes when they hit the net twice cutting the visitors lead to one point. But Desertmartin were resolute to the end. With some excellent defending and two pointed frees, one from Laclan Murray and the other from Martin Mackle, Desertmartin finished as three point winners on a scoreline of 1 -9 to 3-0.

U14s Desertmartin 6-17 Moneymore 0-02
U14 had an excellent performance against Moneymore winning on a scoreline of 6-17 v 0-2. While we dominated first half we were very wasteful in front of goal, finishing the half 1-7 v 0-0. Second half saw an improved performance particularly in front goal, kicking some excellent points.
