The U14 Boys contested the final on Feile Peil nOg against Castledawson at blustery Owenbeg on Monday 2nd May. The teams were meeting for the second time this year when the first game ended all square. Desertmartin were first to score with a pointed free before Castledawson replied with three points to lead after eleven minutes 0-3 to 0-1. Laclan Murray stemmed the flow with a goal for the Saffrons on fifteen minutes giving St Martin’s a one point lead. But almost immediately Castledawson replied with a goal from Shay McKenna. Play ebbed and flowed to half-time with St Malachy’s adding another point to lead at the break 1-4 to 1-1.
Desertmartin started the second period brightly and only for a great save from the Dawson keeper Desertmartin could have raised the green flag. But it was the Lily Whites who did, when they hit the net on the twenty third minute to lead by six points. With Castledawson pressing strongly, the St Martin’s keeper, Fearghal Bradley kept his team in the game when he saved from point -blank range. Castledawson continued their dominance with two further points to lead by eight after twenty five minutes of play. The following ten minutes saw Desertmartin take control. Laclan Murray scored a penalty on the twenty-fifth minute cutting the deficit to five points. The Saffrons were on a role scoring four unanswered points trimming the Dawson’s lead to one with five minutes to go. But Castledawson stuck to their task and scored a point in the final minute to win on a scoreline of 2-7 to 2-5.
