Under 16's Beat Magherafelt

Desertmartin 7-15 Magherafelt 3-6

The under 16?s continued their league campaign on Monday night last when they had a comprehensive victory over Magherafelt.

I have always believed that it is important to lose with the same dignity as when winning games but this was certainly not the case for our opponents on Monday night. Comments from the Magherafelt management were in very poor taste and smacked of sour grapes after our lads completed their third win of the season over the same opposition.

From very early in the game it was obvious that Desertmartin were well up for the game and Paddy Trainor got the team of to the perfect start with a goal after about 3 minutes this paved the way for an early barrage of scores with points following from John, Enda O?Hagan , Greg and 2 from Enda McGuckan to open up an 8 point lead. Magherafelt eventually got of the mark with a pointed free. This only served to spur our lads on as they again hit scores at will Enda McGuckan scored our second goal also adding a point with further points from John and Paul. Magherafelt did reply with a goal and a point but Desertmartin finished the half strongly with a point from Enda O?Hagan and 2 goals from Paddy Trainor to complete a first half hat-trick. Halftime score Desertmartin 4-9 Magherafelt 1-2.

Magherafelt got the first score of the second Half with another pointed free but any hopes the had of a comeback were dashed when Enda O?Hagan ran 40 metres straight through their defence and planted the ball in the net points from Paul McGovern and Enda O?Hagan increased the lead. The remainder of the game was played out at leisurely pace with our lads content to pick of scores as and when they pleased, Magherafelt did manage to add a few scores during the second half but it was never enough to make any impression on the result. Desertmartin added further points in the half from the two Enda?s, Greg and Paul and 2 great goals from John. This was a much better performance from the team than against Slaughtneill.

The workrate throughout was much improved Cathal Braown was superb at corner back with Paddy also sound at full back Paul McFlynn and Ryan Murray were excellent in the half back line with Greg and Cahir holding their own at midfield Paul and Ferghal worked hard through out with the full forward line of Enda, John and Paddy who contributed 6-6 between them causing Magherafelt problems all night. Man Of The match on this occasion was Enda O?Hagan who returned to form with a bang. His work rate and distribution of the ball throughout was superb.
