County Derry Post Talks Derry Club Football

CLUB Championship is what it’s about in Derry. Always has been, always will be.
To mark the start of the 2012 Senior and Intermediate Club Championships, and to coincide with the build-up to the Junior final, the County Derry Post, in association with The Elk, are hosting the county’s first ever club championship talk night.
The event will be hosted by The Elk on Friday 20 July, with BBC Sport’s Thomas Niblock on the mic and taking the guest panel of Adrian McGuckin, Enda Gormley and Dermot McNicholl through their paces as the county prepares for the first round of games less than two weeks later.
The County Derry Post sports team of Cahair O’Kane, Conán Doherty and Mary K Burke will also be giving their input on what promises to be a great night of entertainment.
The talk show format will give an insight into the thoughts of both the panel and the public ahead of the championships.
There’s already been plenty of food for thought as the build up to the championship continues: Will Magherafelt be able to take their winning form into the big games? Will Ballinderry become the first team in a decade to retain the crown? Will Slaughtneil’s day ever come again? Where are the potential upsets in the first round and beyond?
At intermediate level, the league has seen everyone beating everyone else, which makes for a fascinating championship. Will Castledawson find the recipe of two years ago, or will Newbridge’s championship pedigree come to the fore? Or will there be an outside bet, perhaps Foreglen to end their years of hurt?
The event, which will run from 8.30pm, beginning with a free drinks reception, will take on a question and answer format, where the public will be invited to put their questions to the panel.
Better still, entry to the event is FREE. Limited tickets are available for the event and can be collected either from The Elk or from the County Derry Post offices in Dungiven.

The event is designed to promote the club championships, which begin a few days later, and should also be a good night’s craic. We appreciate your help and co-operation.
