Desertmartin v's Limavady Match Report

A hard fought one point victory over Limavady in Magilligan tonight saw our seniors book their place in the quarter finals of this years intermediate championship.

Report By Michael Hegarty

Limavady started the game sharply with a point in the first min. Jimmy responded by the 6th but limavaddy countered with a 40 in the 7th min working the ball over the bar and followed up with another in the 12 th min leaving it 3 to 1.

Then a partially sited linesman was instrumental in sending off Shane for striking while leaving No 15 on the field.
Donal replied with a point in the 13th min only for it to be cancelled out by a limavaddy point 2 mins later.

For the next 9 minuted St martins with the majority of play could not put the ball over the bar. Against the run of play St Martins gave away possesion in their half forward line and resulted in a scrappy goal for Limavady in the 25th min to leave them 1,4 to 2 points.

This seemed to help St Martins forwards and in the next 6 minutes they recorded 3 points Jimmy 26min, Barry 27 min and Gregory after a 40 yard run in the 31st min to leave the half time score 1,4 to 5 points.

A dertermined second half would be required and following the half time talk by Kevin and Deck St Martins emmerged for the second half looking like they meant business.

By 3 minuted Donal had leveled the score with 2 points from frees. Barry followed up with another free on the 5th min with Aidy 6th min and Donal 8th min compleeting the rout. St Martins were 3 ahead.

On the 11th min Paddy Kidds miss timed tackle resulted in a second yellow and we were 13 v 15. Eoin came on for Enda to help shore up the defence. Hard tackling and fast counter attacking kept Limavady to 3 points with Aidy adding another for St Martins on the 21st minute. With the game drifting towards injury time Limavadys corner forward was spotted striking Greg and he too ended up on the sideline.

Final score 11 points to 1 7. St Martins win by a point. While the game ended up with 3 red cards and numerous yellows it could not be noted as vicious or dangerous.

St Martins can consider themselves through to the next round of the championship but on this demonstration of play against what should be inferior opponents, a much higher standard must be atained to continue our quest for honours.

Donal 4 points(2 frees).
Barry 2 points (1 free).
Jimmy 2 points.
Aidy 2 points.
Greg 1 point.
