Graham Cup – Ballinascreen vs Desertmartin

Yesterday evening saw the Reserves travel to near neighbours Ballinascreen for the first round off the Graham Cup.  With Minor players unavailable due to their impending League Final the team looked to be struggling for players, but with anybody who had not played in this years Championship the Reserves where able to field Jimmy McElhennon & Paddy Kidd.

The Reserves looked to keep their winning run going and did so in fine style with a sweeping first half performance that saw them dominate a Screen side who where simply unable to breach a solid defence.  The half time scoreline showed an impressive 0-10 to 0-2 for the Martins, who also missed a few simple scores and could have easily went in at least 12 points up.

The second half saw Screen make a few positional changes and show a bit more determination to salvage some pride.  They opened up the half with the first two scores and the come back seemed to be on until the Screen keeper took his first short and rushed kickout and kicked it straight into Dermie Bradley's eagerly waiting hands.  Dermie then coolly chipped the ball back over the stranded keeper into the empty net and that ended the game as a contest with Desertmartin running out ten point winners with a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-8.

The result has left Desertmartin with a clean sweep against Ballinascreen this year with Senior, Reserve and Minor sides all beating the neighbours.
