McGuckin shows his class

The under 16?s played their fifth game on Thursday night at home to Castledawson. Having won the previous 4 games the team were anxious to continue the winning streak.

Desertmartin 6-15 Castledawson 0-02

Once again the management used the game to give some more of the panel a run, with Gerard McElwee, Paddy O?Neill, Paul McGovern and Sean Fullen making way for Sean McStravock, Paul McFlynn, Fearghal Higgins and Mark Murchan.

John Hughes once again had the opening score after about 3 minutes when he turned his marker to fire over the first point this was followed with two points from Enda McGuckin. The team did struggle to get any fluency in their play during the early exchanges. Cahir Madden added a point his first score of the season followed by 2 more from Enda McGuckin. Castledawson then had their first score with a pointed free. Enda McGuckin then hit the teams and his first goal. The team were now playing with more fluency and John Hughes 2 and Enda McGuckin added further points. John Hughes then brought the half to a close with a goal.

Leading by 2-9 to 0-1 at half time the management then rang the changes for the second half. John Hughes opened the scoring in the half and was then replaced by Sean Fullen. Paul McGovern replaced Fearghal Higgins, and Paddy Trainor replaced Joey Leyden. At the back Danny Hegarty replaced Birthday Boy Cathal Brown and Gerard McElwee replaced Paul McFlynn. Despite all the changes the team still managed to retain the fluency goals followed from Enda McGuckin and Mark Murchan followed by points from Enda O?Hagan and Enda McGuckin 2.

Castledawson did add a point from a free but Enda McGuckin completed his hat trick with a third goal Ryan Murray added a point. The scoring was concluded with a point from Enda McGuckin and a goal from Sean Fullen. This was another good performance from all players on the panel. The defence led by Christopher between the sticks were outstanding. Christopher?s kick outs were once again very good, the full back line of Cathal, Paul and Sean were very solid. In front of them Connor flanked by Paul and Ryan thwarted Castledawson throughout. Cahir eventually got on the score sheet a reward for some fine performances his partner Greg once again put in a very solid hours work against a much taller opponent. The half forward line of Fearghal , Enda O?Hagan and Joey worked tirelessly all night with Fearghal in particular showing up very well.

The full Forward line of Enda McGuckan, John and Mark 5-12 between them with Enda McGuckan hitting 3-8 in a man of the match performance.

Substitutes Sean, Paul, Gerard, Paddy, and Danny all played their part after coming on. Whilst pleased with their performance the team know that tougher challenges lie ahead with an away game against Magherafelt on Thursday night 12/05/2005.
