Training game against Moneyglass

Training Games for senior panel

The senior panel welcomed Moneyglass last night for two training games in hallow park. It was a useful exercise as it gave the management an opportunity to look at the panel in a game situation.

Desertmartin 8-8 Moneyglass 5-7

The reserve game was the first under way and a high scoring encounter ensued. The team began brightly and had moneyglass on the back foot from the beginning. The early onslaught yielded 2 goals for Gerard Murray, 1 for Aidan Bradley and a point for Brian McElhennon this opening salvo proved to be the difference between the teams at the end as for the remainder of the game moneyglass matched us in terms of scores. An unusually lacklustre display from the reserves allowed Moneyglass to bring themselves into the game with a scoring burst of their own which yielded 2-2. Points from Gerard Murray, Aidan Bradley, Danny Murray and Ryan Kidd were matched by a goal and point from moneyglass. Gerard Murray then brought the half to a close by completing his hat trick to leave the score at the break 4-5 to 3-3.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first Gavin Kidd had an early goal and followed this with a point to increase the lead but back came Moneyglass with 1-2. J P Higgins then hit a goal Paul Kelly added a point before Moneylass added two points. Enda McGuckan then stamped his authority on the game with a remarkable point from the sideline he then added two further goals one from the penalty spot before Moneyglass finished the game with another goal.

This was the first run out for a lot of players and it showed. However with a full 7-8 weeks before the beginning of the league the players have time to get themselves into shape for the season.

Desertmartin 2-18 Moneyglass 1-9

The second game saw a very committed Desertmartin side outscore Moneyglass by double scores. The management would certainly have been happy with the commitment of all the players on show. The first half saw the side playing some terrific football with Moneyglass struggling to make an impact. Barry McEldowney had the first 4 scores before Moneyglass opened their account with a pointed free. Dermot Bradley and Jimmy McElhennon then added points before Mickey McCann hit a thunderbolt to the top corner after a 40 metre run. Moneyglass did add a couple of points but further points from Jimmy McElhennon 2, Johnny McGovern and Mickey McCann left the half time score 1-10 to 3 points.

The second half proved a much more competive affair. The f1rst 15 minutes of the half belonged to Moneyglass as they hit 1-5 desertmartins only reply during this period were points from Paddy McCann and Adrian McGuigan. However after the team settled down they began to show glimpses of the form they showed in the first half. In fact after the Moneyglass goal Desertmartin hit 1-6 to the visitors 1 point as Jimmy McElhennon added 2 points Adrian McGuigan added 3 and Aidan Bradley hit 1-1 with the goal from the penalty spot.

Dermot had a fine game in the half forwards before having to retire injured whilst Barry and Adrian with 9 points between them were a constant threat for the Moneyglass rearguard.
