The senior and reserve team hosted Ahoghill and Eire Og on Sunday 27 Feb.
Both games where played in a sporting manner and although we may be in the opening weeks of the new season there both teams displayed impressive early form, with some good passages of play and individual performances. The first team kicked of at 12.15 against The Defeated Antrim intermediate champions from last year Ahoghill.
Desertmartin fielded a very different team from the one that finished last season with starting places offered to Liam Bradley, James Breen, Eamon McBride, Mickey Kelly, Mickey McCann, Paddy Kidd, Ciaran Higgins, Paddy McCann, Johnny McGovern, Brian Mcelhennon, Kevin Gormley, John P Higgins, Aidan Bradley, Ryan Kidd, and Jimmy McElhennon
The team selection is broad reflection of the faces that are seen regularly around hallow park on a Tuesday and Thursday nights. Desertmartin started quite strong but due to continuous wayward shooting this dominance was not reflected in the score line, as the game progressed the hard work in training started to show as the defence had the Agohill forwards living on straps, and the forwards seemed to find space with increasing ease. At half time Desertmartin introduced Adrian McGuigan, Barry McEldowney, and Gavin Kidd, all in the forward line, this trio brought a youthful dimension to the attack and all three settled quickly to the pace of senior football. Desertmartin eventually ran out convincing winners on this occasion but there are still areas for improvement before the league kicks off in the next few weeks.
The Club would like to Thank both teams for making the trip to Longfield and look forward to making a return trip sometime in the future.
