Both our Seniors and Reserves recorded victories in the opening day of the season when playing host to local neighbors Lissan.
Aided with the wind in the opening half the Seniors quickly got on the mark with Enda McGucking settling any early nerves with a couple of pointed frees. Another free form JP Higgins followed by another pointed free from Enda saw the Martins quickly open up a 4 point lead and looking comfortable. However a two minute spell in the middle of the first half saw Lissan come back into the game.
First an attempted point came back off the post, only for the corner forward to pick it up before cutting past his marker and finding the net to put just a point in the game. A minute later they registered their first point and drew the game level.
Further points from McGuckin and a pointed 50 from Mark Madden restored the Martins lead but Lissan registered another point before the break leaving the score at half time Desertmartin 0.08 Lissan 1.02
The game opened up more in the second half and further points from Enda, JP Higgins and Gerard Murray saw the Martins open up a comfortable lead which they held to the end. Final score Desertmartin 0.15 Lissan 1.06
Enda McGuckin – A fine performance with 8 points in total (7f) including a point late in the second half from the tightest of angles.
