Callan Gaels vs Ballerin

Callan Gaels 5-13

Ballerin 0-06

The minors put up an improved performance to leave Ballerin trailing in their wake at Longfield on Monday night. From the opening few seconds with the wind, the first score from 35m set the marker for the rest of the half, with Kelly, McCrystal and Moore running at the defence with confidence. The Gaels spent the rest of the half camped in the opposition half and made the advantage count, coming in with a 1-11 to 0-2 lead at the half.

After the turnaround if Ballerin thought they might turn the screw, but the Gaels had different ideas, with midfield scrapping for everything and not giving an inch, and Aodhan Conway, Kieran Moore, and Ryan McAllister, touch tight at the back, the Gaels maintained the lions share of possession into the wind, and outscored Ballerin 4-2 to 0-4 with a strong running performance, to finish out a 5-13 to 6 point win.

With two wins from two and showing lots of promise, the Gaels travel to Doire Trasna on Bank Holiday Monday, with a 7pm throw in. Last years last minute winner from Paul McCystal, set in motion a great campaign, and there’s hope that a win can help keep the momentum going this season.
