Football
U8 s and 10s recommence their training this Saturday with another indoor tournament scheduled for 13th March.
Under 14s played their third game on Sunday away to the favourites, Newbridge, for our section. Final score 1.8 to 0.3. Desertmartin defended strongly in the first half keeping the Bridge to long range shots. Daniel O’Hagan, at full back was well supported by Paul McCrystal and Eunan O’Kane to his right and left. Curtis McLeish and Michael Shaw had a difficult task at midfield up against two towering Newbridge players but they gave all they had. Newbridge picked off a goal and 7 points to one from Andy Leyden, converting a pass from Oran Kelly. First half score 1.7 to 0.1.
The second half started with Oran Scullin moving out field with Andy taking over between the sticks. A strong display from Hayden Murray at centre half back, and Daniel at full back, resulted in greater possession. Michael and Curtis were getting the better of their marker but scores were hard to come by. Oran Kelly converted a free, with Hayden picking off a point from play to one point from the Bridge to leave the final score, 1.8 to 3 points.
Next game at home to An Lub on Sunday 11.00.
Minors play in the Hughes McElwee Cup at home to Kilrea on 14th March.
