ALL IRELAND FEILE.

The All Ireland Feile commenced with Gloucestershire taking the field against Desertmartin on Friday morning. The home side found it difficult to overcome the physical size of the visitors and were 2 points to 3,2 at half time. Desertmartin goaled early in the second half from a Daniel O’Hagan free deflected into the net. They picked up a point and had a number of goal chances blocked down but Gloucestershire ran out winners. Lurgan Ladies took the field next against Desertmartin/ St Treas ladies and the Cavan county champions were convincing winners. That evening the teams made the journey Derry City for the Feile parade where 160 teams paraded from Celtic Park via the Guild Hall and terminated at Magee College.

Saturday saw Desertmartin and Gloucestershire travel to Ballymaguigan. Gloucestershire easily dispatched with the home side before Desertmartin fielded against Philadelphia. Desertmartin found it difficult to cope with Philadelphia who established a convincing lead. In the last 5 minutes, St Martins made some positional changes and pinned Philadelphia in their own half. They cut the lead to 2 goals but time caught up with them and the Yanks closed out the game. Desertmartin finished with a convincing win against hosts, Ballymaguigan. The final game saw Gloucestershire take on Philadelphia with winners take all. Philadelphia held their luck and closed off the game with a win and a place in the semi finals where they met Robertstown, Kildare champions. Here Philadelphia’s luck ran out. Two suspect decisions in Robertson’s favour resulted in Philadelphia’s defeat and Robertstown were to take part in the final on Sunday in Celtic Park.

Desertmartin Ladies were unsuccessful but Lurgan Ladies went through to the semi final held in Magherafelt. They met defeat with pride but look forward to next year when they travel to Cork for 2011 All Ireland Feile.

That night everyone enjoyed the table quiz, music and dancing in The Gaelic Centre, Longfield. A special word of thanks to Father Madden for celebrating Mass in the hall for all the players, their mentors, guests and host families.

The club offer their thanks to all who made the weekend a resounding success with a special word of thanks for Danny McStravock, our Feile Officer..
