Friday night past saw the seniors travel to Glack in the league, looking to chalk up another win to keep them in touch with the league pace setters.
Coming off the back of a good mid-week result against Lavey this game seemed as if it was coming at just the right time for the Martin’s, Glack however had other ideas.
The opening half saw both teams play some nice football in the sun, with the Martin’s scoring some nice points. Paddy McCann, supported by Dermot Kelly won plenty of ball around the mid-field and drove forward at every opportunity. Paddy McCann even getting on the end of a few of the moves to knock over a few points, four in total for his day at the office. Not a bad return for a mid-fielder.
Not to let his brother take all the limelight, Michael McCann got in amongst the scorers, forming a McCann & McCann partnership who now seem to score at will.
Even with the most of the play Desertmartin never pulled away and inspired by their number 10 Glack kept in touch and went into the break, trailing by a single point.
The second half saw Desertmartin make a good start opening up a 3 point lead of 0-10 to 0-07 however back Glack came again, determined not to be pushed over in their own arena they fought back to level it at 10 points each with 15 to play.
Desertmartin then rang the changes, taking on Mickey Kelly, Gerard Murray and Danny Murray to freshen things up. With both teams clocking up points a peace it looked as though the game might just end a draw. However Desertmartin had other ideas, and with the sides drew at 12 points each, up stepped Danny Murray to knock over a fabulous point from away out on the wing to open up a one point gap again.
Although Glack pushed for the equaliser again they never succeeded and Desertmartin held out for another win.
This counted as another win in the league but with the Championship fast approaching the Martin’s will have to pick it up a fair bit if they are to see off Foreglen in the first round in a few weeks time.
Final score: Glack 0-12 Desertmartin 0-13
