Well done to all club members who made the Patrick Higgins Memorial tournament such a wonderful occasion last Sunday. This is an annual U10 football event commemorating the great work done by former club chairman Patrick Higgins for the G.A.A within our parish and throughout the county. We extent our thanks to all invited clubs, to their management and for the great enthusiasm shown by all players. Pat Kidd club chairman paid tribute to team mentors for encouraging open attacking football and to Desertmartin G.A.A for maintaining the tournament since its inception in 2002. Patrick Higgins’ son Ciaran made the presentations and on behalf of his family complimented everyone who helped to make the tournament such a great success. Desertmartin played really well in beating Swatragh and Lissan in their section only to lose to a very good Bellaghy side in the semi-final of the Shield A competition. Congratulations to Bellaghy winners of Shield A, to Magherafelt who won Shield B and to Bellaghy’s Emmet Turner who was voted Player of the Tournament.
