The Senior Ladies travelled to MacCracken Park on Monday evening 6th June to play their return league game against Moneymore. On a warm balmy evening both sides produced a thoroughly enjoyable encounter. Desertmartin with two points form Lisa McGuigan and one from Aideen Fullen went 0-3 ahead after five minutes of play. Moneymore hit back with 1-1 to lead by a point on the seventh minute. For the next twenty minutes Desertmartin were in full control. With Nuala Browne marshalling the defence from centre half-back, Louise Breen and Noleen McGuckin winning the mid-field exchanges and with Aideen Fullen and Lisa McGuigan in full flight up front the Martins created chance after chance. Despite their superiority they only managed to score three further points, two from Lisa McGuigan and one from Ciara Shaw. Against the run of play Moneymore broke down-field and scored a goal to lead at the break by a point.
The second half saw a very different type of game compared to the first. Bouyed by their revival just before the break Moneymore went all-out attack and scored 1-2 to lead by six points on the 36th minute. Desertmartin rose to he challange and cut the deficit to two points on the 39th minute with 1-1 coming from the boot of Lisa McGuigan. With both sides rivaling for supremacy scores were hard to come by and when Lisa McGuigan scored her sixth point of the evening on the 50th minute there was only one point between the sides. The final ten minutes saw both teams battle for possession but Moneymore had the last call on scoring. In the 52nd minute they lofted over a point to lead by two. Despite Desertmartin’s best efforts to close the gap Moneymore finished two point winners on scoreline Moneymore 3-4, Desertmartin 1-8.
