Our reserves proved too good for Castledawson in Graham Cup replay First round.
Desertmartin 4-13 Castledawson 1-7
A good crowd attended to see the much talked about replay and the home team did not disappoint. After the initial battle last week this rematch was probably never going to live up to the excitement of the first game.
Desertmartin took the game to the Dawson men right from the throw in and registered a couple of early scores from Dermot Bradley and Cormac McGuckin. The visitors took longer to settle but credit must be given to a strong desertmartin defense that never gave their opposition much time to settle on the ball, a few timely interceptions in the first half by Paddy Kelly, James Breen and Kieran Higgins kept the game in Desertmartins favor and as the forwards started to punish these mistakes there looked like there was only going to be one outcome. Mid way through the first half Adie Mcguigan decided to get in on the act with an impressive individual effort finishing with a Goal. With the midway point approaching castledawson where still within striking distance but the woodwork denying Heaney and a missed pelenty soon afterwards summed up Castledawsons night. with the hard work done in the first half Desertmartin settled and as confidence grew throughout the team so to did the score line. Desertmartin dominating throughout in Key positions they eventually ran out convincing winners.
With so many impressive performances management could a few disappointed seniors, and selection worry’s for upcoming Games.
