Under 12's beat Ballinascreen

A fantastic team effort saw Desertmartin U12s return to the top of the league on Saturday past at Dean McGlinchey park.

Ballinascreen 0-03 Desertmartin 4-08

The margin of victory was comprehensive and deserved, as the team undoubtedly produced the best display of the year so far. Once again the opposition had both an age and physical advantage over this courageous young team. However, the bigger they are, the harder they fall type of attitude seems to be very much to the fore with this particular group of players and Ballinascreen were on the recieving end of some dynamic play and superb finishing.

Initially the match was a tight affair and some strong defensive play from Harry Mulholland, Connor Murray and Darren McGuigan kept Desertmartin in the game during the early stages. The confidence this strong defending gave to the team was evident and it enabled the midfield pairing of Marty Breen and Adrian Trainor to take control. This coupled with the movement of Eoin McGuigan and Eamon Burns up front soon meant that the scores began to add up and at half time Desertmartin led by eight points (2-3 to 0-1).
On the restart Ballinascreen pressed forward and two fine saves from Mark (Peter Cech) Kidd kept Desertmartin in the lead. Seeing that Desertmartin were strong in all areas of the pitch caused Ballinascreens heads to drop and two further goals and a series of superb long range points saw Desertmartin run out convincing winners. The goalscorers in this game were Mark Fullen, Eoin McGuigan Eamon Burns and Martin Breen.

This was a game that Desertmartin needed to win and its fair to say that every player (including substitutes) played their part and the squad now move on to play Castledawson in the final league of the season on Thursday evening. A win will guarantee them a play off match against Lavey for the title.

All players to meet on Thursday evening at Longfield (6-15pm)
