Under 16's continue great form

The under 16’s welcomed Newbridge as visitors on Thursday night for a
friendly fixture. The management plans for the fixture were however
thwarted due to unavailability of 7 players for various reasons. The
starting team therefore showed 6 changes in personnel and 6 positional
switches from the team, which played Dungiven.

Final score: Desertmartin 2-15    Newbridge 1-4

The team opened brightly and really took the game to Newbridge from the
start. Points from Enda McGuckan 3, John Hughes and Paddy Trainor
followed by a goal from John Hughes left Newbridge staring at a very
heavy defeat early on. This early onslaught continued with Cahir Madden
and Sean Fullen dominating midfield ably assisted by Enda O’Hagan at
Centre Half back the forwards were getting plenty of ball. Enda
McGuckan 2, John Hughes 2 and Paddy Trainor added further points at
this stage Paudie McDaid entered the fray replacing John Hughes with
Cathal Brown moving to centre half Forward and Enda McGuckin moving to
Corner Back. The scores continued with Sean Fullen and Mark Murchan
adding points before a brilliant goal from Paudie McDaid set up by a
strong run from Fearghal Higgins. Just before the half time break
Newbridge opened their account with a point.

With the game well won at this stage the management again rung the
changes Paddy and Joey moved to midfield and John Hughes moved to full
back. The second half was a very dead affair with Newbridge making more
of a fight of the contest outscoring Desertmartin 1-3 to 0-3. Although
the game did not prove as beneficial as expected the management would
like to thank Newbridge for the game and wish them all the best for the
season ahead. Like us Newbridge had a number of late cry offs and this
contributed to the game being rather dead at times.

Despite this the game did give an opportunity for a number of players
to stake their claim for inclusion on the team. And all of them
contributed very well to the performance. At the back Danny and Sean
had good games and Enda O’Hagan was excellent at Centre half back.
Cahir Madden and Sean Fullen dominated Midfield for most of the first
half. Up front John and Enda caused Newbridge major problems before
moving back to defence. The other Forwards Joey, Paddy, Mark, Fearghal
and Paudie were also excellent for the whole game.

The teams next Game is due to be the first League match next Thursday
Away to Lavey were a much stronger challenge no doubt awaits. Training
for the team will be on Monday Night at 6.15 at Longfield all players
are asked to attend.
