Desertmartin 3-19 Ardmore 0-4
With the minors already through to the semi-final of the championship and the under 12?s in the final Thursday night saw the reserves attempt to make it through to the semi-final of their championship. A team can only beat what is put in front of them and the reserves did, when the ruthlessly disposed of a poor Ardmore team who although they tried hard could never match the skill or speed of our lads.
Ahead 2-10 to 0-1 at half time the team coasted to victory in the second half the scores were fairly evenly spread out with goals coming from Adrian McGuigan 2 and Marty Kelly the points were shared between Adrian McGuigan, Stephen Gormley, Gavin Kidd, Aidan Bradley, Marty Kelly, Dermot Bradley, Enda McGuckan, Barry McEldowney and Gerard Murray.
On a night were the opposition were so poor their were still a lot of positives to be taken from the game but also areas for the team to work on for what promises to be a much tougher Semi final whoever the opposition.
In defence there were fine games from Cahir, James, Jimmy and Greg in midfield Gerard and Barry controlled the play throughout up front Stephen was the pick of the half forwards
Marty had a fine game at full forward with good support from English in the corner in the other corner Aidy had his best game of the season. The game also saw the return of a couple of players after injury Shane O?Neill and Danny Murray who both did well after coming on.
The draw for the Semi-finals has not been made yet but Desertmartin were joined in the hat by Newbridge and Ballymaguigan who both won their games. The other quarter final between Foreglen and Steelstown is still to be played.
The next game for the reserves comes on Saturday when both senior and reserve teams travel to Foreglen looking for wins for very different reasons. The seniors will be attempting to get two points to try and secure a place in the top group of the intermediate league next season whilst the reserves will be looking to secure the league title.
